The team cannot test its latest work because access to a shared environment is blocked. One answer tells the project manager to assign everybody different tasks. Another says to wait until the next meeting. A third suggests helping the team work with the people who can restore access.
In PMP agile impediment questions, ask what will remove the obstacle while preserving the team's ability to manage its work. Looking busy is not the same as making progress.
Understand the blocker before choosing a response
An impediment is something that obstructs progress. The useful questions are concrete: What work is blocked? Who can resolve it? What has already been tried? Does the team need help beyond its authority?
Do not turn assessment into an endless interview. If the scenario already explains the cause and responsible group, use that evidence. Repeating an investigation can be just as unhelpful as jumping to a solution without one.
Try this original practice scenario
A team is ready to test a feature, but the infrastructure group has not granted access. The team has followed the normal request process twice. The delay threatens the Sprint Goal. What is the most useful next response?
- A. Tell the team to count the feature as complete because development is finished.
- B. Facilitate a conversation with infrastructure to resolve the access constraint and help the team inspect its plan.
- C. Wait until the retrospective before addressing the problem.
- D. Assign a new Sprint Goal without consulting the team or Product Owner.
B is the best response given these facts. The blocker crosses a team boundary and earlier requests have failed. Facilitation can connect the right people, clarify impact and establish an owner for the resolution. The team can then adapt its work with better information.
Support ownership without abandoning the team
In Scrum, Developers manage their work, while the Scrum Master helps ensure impediments are removed. The Scrum Guide describes these accountabilities. It does not make the Scrum Master the person who must personally fix every technical problem.
That distinction matters in a question. Helpful leadership may mean coaching, connecting people or addressing an organizational obstacle. It does not mean taking over every task. Equally, self-management is not a reason to leave people stranded when the solution requires another department.
Escalate with a purpose
If cooperation cannot resolve a time-critical constraint, escalation may be appropriate. Explain the impact, the attempts already made, available options and the decision required. A useful escalation asks someone with authority to remove a constraint. A less useful one announces that another department is annoying.
Watch for context. An urgent security incident requires the relevant incident response, not a generic coaching conversation. Agile principles do not cancel organizational obligations.
Practice the decision, not the slogan
When reviewing an answer, finish this sentence: this action helps because it removes... If you can only say it sounds collaborative, examine the scenario again.
